GLTR - A Gold, Silver, Platinum and Palladium ETF

By , About.com Guide

Definition: GLTR

Name: ETFS Physical Precious Metal Basket Shares

ETF Provider: ETF Securities

Asset Tracked: Gold, Silver, Platinum, Palladium

Category: Precious Metals ETF, Gold ETF, Silver ETF, Platinum ETF, Palladium ETF, Commodity ETF

Description: GLTR is an ETF of four precious metals held in trust - gold, silver, platinum and palladium. Each precious metal in the fund has an equal-weighting of 25. However the actual physical weight of each metal isn't equal. Gold (.03 ounces), silver (1.1 ounces), platinum (.004 ounces) and palladium (.006 ounces).

ETFS wanted to respond to a demand for a physically-backed investment that gave traders accurate exposure to precious metal commodities. So by using physical assets as opposed to futures, ETFS believes GLTR more accurately reflects the prices of the four precious metals.
