GLD, a Major Gold ETF

By , About.com Guide

Definition:

The SPDR Gold Shares ETF (GLD) is a gold exchange traded fund that tracks the price performance of the gold bullion. Owners of the ETF do not actually own the gold asset, they are held by a Trust. The Trust is expected to issue baskets in exchange for deposits of gold for when the baskets are redeemed. The gold in the trust will only be sold on an as-needed basis to pay trust expenses.
