Wind ETFs - Are You Bullish or Bearish?
Wind ETFs - An Alternative Energy, An Alternative Investment

By , About.com Guide

Energy is popular word nowadays. Energy crisis, energy prices, energy rebates. With oil prices high and the trust of commodity energy investments being low, now more than ever, people are considering alternative energy sources…and investments.

One such type of energy is wind energy. So if you have a sentiment on this type of alternative energy, look no further then a wind ETF for instant exposure. However, the question for you to answer is, should you buy a wind ETF or sell one?

Why You Should be Bullish on Wind ETFs

Potential. Consider it an emerging sector, market, energy source, or whatever emerging label you deem necessary, but there is potential here. Wind energy is one of the largest and highly concentrated forms of renewable energy around.

Capacity. Wind energy is one of the most efficient forms of alternative energy on the Earth. It needs a very small area per person to generate energy. And as technology advances, it will even require less so.

Diversification. Eliminating risk by diversification is always a sound strategy. Don’t put all your nest eggs in one basket, industry, or market. Instead consider other investments such as…wind ETFs.

Why You Should be Bearish on Wind ETFs

Unreliability. We’d love to be able to count on wind energy, but we’re just not there yet. Thing might change as we continue to harness this type of energy as science advances, but for now we can’t depend on it. Ground wind is just not predictable.

Imperfect Resources. Jet streams are another story when it comes to dependability, but the ability to harness that source isn’t perfected yet either. While there is an abundance of wind in the jet streams, it is much easier to harness ground wind. Advances may get us there some day, but for now it is a quandary that may prevent wind energy from reaching its potential.

What Wind ETFs are Avaiable?

Whether you are bullish or bearish, there are wind ETFs available for your investment strategy. Before making any trade, it’s important to conduct thorough research and watch how the funds react to different market conditions. The last thing you want is to get blown away by a wind ETF (sorry).
