More ETNs and ETFs Closing Down

Wednesday March 18, 2009

Despite a few up days in the market (including today) there is more financial bad news. The market's recent gains are just too little too late for a few select ETFs and ETNs.

As of April 3rd, three Elements ETNs will be taken off the NYSE. The backer of the notes, Credit Suisse, stated that reason behind the delisting was a lack of trading volume. However they are leaving one ETN alive for trading, the Elements Credit Suisse Global Warming ETN (GWO). As for the three delisted ETNs, check your portfolio to make sure you do not own any of them. If so, make the appropriate adjustments to your investing strategy before April 3rd. Here are the soon-to-be defunct ETNs...

  • GOE - Elements MLCX Gold Index ETN
  • LSO - Elements MLCX Livestock ETN
  • PMY - Elements MLCX Precious Metals Plus Index ETN
  • The bad news doesn't stop with ETNs, either. SPA MarketGrader ETFs are shutting down six exchange traded funds due to a lack of investor interest. The last trading day for these ETFs will be March 25. Again, prepare your portfolio by making the proper adjustments. Any shareholders owning in the ETFs on March 30 will receive cash at the net asset value (NAV) of their shares.
